Mercury settles above freezing point in most parts of Kashmir

Srinagar, March 1 (UNI) Amid the forecast of rain and snow during the next 24 hours, the night temperatures rose across Kashmir last night, officials said here on Tuesday. Some parts of the valley received light rain this morning. Except for the two tourist resorts of Gulmarg in north Kashmir and Pahalgam in south Kashmir, mercury settled above the freezing point at most parts of the Valley. According to Srinagar Meteorological (MeT) department, Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 0.3 degrees Celsius against minus 6.8 degrees last night. Similarly, Gulmarg recorded a temperature of minus 4.5 degrees against minus 8.0 degrees the previous night. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 3.4 degrees. Qazigund, the gateway town in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 1.2 degrees and Kupwara district in north Kashmir recorded a minimum of 3.3 degrees. The minimum temperature in Jammu was recorded at 12.3 degrees. In the Union Territory of Ladakh, Drass registered minimum temperature of minus 14.7 degrees, Leh minus 7.2 degrees and Kargil minus 11.2 degrees.
